FIELD UPDATE: MAY 2015 (NEPAL REPORT)

May 20, 2015

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings in the Name of the Lord from Penang, Malaysia.

We are grateful for your interest and heart for our missions ministry.

PROJECT: NEPAL, APRIL/MAY 2015

I was in Nepal at the end of April immediately following the earthquake, and it was unexpected that I would be traveling after the calamity. But I felt it wise and from the Lord that I should proceed with the trip as planned.  It was indeed a challenging time for travel there were so many changes to this trip day by day, but we were able to carry out the original ministry plans which we set out to do.  Before departing, I was prayed for by the pastors and leaders of FGA Church in Penang, and I was given a significant love offering to help with those suffering from the loss of homes and life in the earthquake.

As a result we were able to bring in money given by friends in several nations, to help the ministry of our friend and co-worker, Pastor Nade Lama, Pokhara, Nepal.  A large sum of money was used purchase aid for the earthquake victims in hillside villages, which were greatly affected by the earthquake.  The needs are great, and we were glad we could do something to help.  Purchasing relief supplies in Pokhara town was difficult because of depleted stock in almost every shop, due to many organizations buying up supplies to help with the earthquake.   It was worth the labour of traveling from store to store to find some available supplies to purchase.

During my time there, we secured:

1) 100 backpacker sleeping mats, because people whose homes were damaged or destroyed are sleeping outdoors on the ground.

2) Tarpaulin Tent material for people to make tent shelters.

3) Additional supplies are on order which will be brought in in the coming next couple of weeks.

These supplies are being sent by truck to Dhading town.  From there, several porters will be hired to carry the supplies on foot.  Areas of the roads to hillside villages have been destroyed by rock landslides that took place during the earthquake and aftershocks.  On my flight from Pokhara – Kathmandu, I could see from the air, the land dotted with orange tarps.  The loss of homes and life has been so dramatic and the need to bring relief will go on for a long time.

Here is a link for all the photos where IMP was able to help in the Dhading Region.   I did not take these photos, but they are from our contact in Nepal, Pastor Nade Lama.

(Please be aware: There are funeral photos of a family member who died in the quake at the end of the directory. They are graphic.)   Also, here are photos of our buying and searching for supplies in Pokhara.

MINISTRY: VIETNAMESE AND NEPALESE PASTORS – TAIPING MALAYSIA

I was back in Penang for a few days after being in Nepal and I traveled to the interior of Malaysia with a Malysian pastor and his wife, who organized an event, in which I taught 5 sessions in 3 days, in a pastors and leaders retreat.  This was a wonderful time of ministry and relationship building with Vietnamese and Nepalese pastors, who serve their own people in congregations in Malaysia.   It was very humbling to hear their stories of faith and endurance for the Lord.  I shared messages on “The Making of a Leader.” Principles of Preparation and Development from the life of Moses.

MINISTRY: PENANG, MALAYSIA

We have loved living, serving, and growing with our home church in Penang, Malaysia, FGA Centre.  It is a great privilege to be here, and to build together with the leaders and pastors, and to serve the people in the church. We also have a significant number of relationships with churches, in Penang, and we are honoured to serve here and to grow together with leaders, many whom have become our very close friends in the Lord!

OUR LIVES

Concerning our lives – We will be in the USA in the months of June and July, and part of August, sharing and speaking in churches about our ministry, and having vacation time.

We are thrilled that our daughter and son-in-law Anna and Jaz Boon,  Brentwood, TN, will be having their first child (and our first grandchild. woo-hoo!) in July.   We are also blessed to be spending time with our son, Peter, who lives in our home in Columbia, TN.

In August, we will return to Asia, and continue to be based in Penang, to serve in Malaysia and regionally in SE Asia.  We covet prayer for our family, and for the work we do.

His … Yours,

Charles and Jane Curtis
